Educational Advocacy

Educational Advocacy provides you with the unique information you need to address educational needs, programming and progress monitoring for your child. The more you know the better you are able to access the school services your child needs.

As a parent of a child with a learning difference, you may ask yourself these questions:

  • I have a child with special needs. How do I learn more about this?
  • My child has a learning disability and ADHD. How can I support my child at school?
  • My child has been identified as on the autism spectrum. How do I make sure his educational program meets his emotional and educational needs?
  • My child is identified as "Twice Exceptional." She is gifted and distractible and has a learning disability. How can I partner with his teachers on this?
  • My child is falling behind in school. We have daily homework battles.
  • My child is making little progress even with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plan. What steps can I take to address this?

As your Educational Advocate, I support your collaboration with school professionals to access appropriate school services. You receive comprehensive information and learn strategies to support your child. With team building and collaboration, my goals are to:

  • Assist you in understanding and identifying your child’s unique educational needs.
  • Support you in determining your child’s eligibility for programs and services.
  • Increase your communication with your child’s school by developing a team approach.
  • Develop a relationship with your school where your concerns are heard and acted upon.
  • Facilitate the Individualized Education Plan process so that you are an equal participant in the educational team.
  • Provide recommendations and referrals for alternate educational placements and services to help you get the most appropriate educational setting for your child’s learning and needs.
  • Helping you navigate the school system, I provide guidance, insight, and support to enable your children with special needs to receive their entitled school services.

There is no greater disability in society than the inability to see a person as more. – Robert M. Hensel
